The Summer In The City festival committee in Steinbach has announced the headliners for its Saturday evening show June 15th. The Washboard Union, a Juno-award-winning country band from Vancouver, along with Aaron Goodvin will be here.

Chris Duncombe, who co-founded The Washboard Union, tells us what we can expect from their show.

“Washboard Union shows are a time to forget everything that’s going on and give yourself a well deserved break, come sing along at the top of your lungs, have a blast, be with friends and enjoy some great music. We cannot wait to come back. Our first big, big show was in Manitoba and we are so excited every time we get a chance to come back.”

Dumcombe says The Washboard Union started about eight or nine years ago.

“Literally, we got together in a basement in Vancouver and started playing really old country, really old trucker songs and bluegrass. And that’s where the band really started, the three of us playing songs we loved and then starting to write music together. Washboard was kind of born out of that.”

Some of the band’s hit songs include ‘Shot of Glory’, ‘Shine’ and ‘Feel Like That’. Duncombe says they are grateful for the success they are having.

“We’ve always dreamt really big. But, more importantly, we just wrote songs that we could be proud of and told stories that were genuine and meaningful to us. The fact that it’s been accepted in this way is a huge gift to us and we are not lost on that. We have a lot more miles and a lot more things we want to do in our career and we’re just so excited about what lies in front of us.”

Country artist Aaron Goodvin has a natural ability to light up a stage, connect with his audience and deliver show stopping performance, whether it’s an intimate gathering or a crowd of thousands. He was named one of Billboards “7 Country Acts to Watch in 2019” and was the winner of the 2018 CCMA Song of the year with “Lonely Drum” with additional nominations for Single of the Year and the Sirius XM Rising Star Award. “Lonely Drum”
has been certified Platinum, the only Canadian country single in 2017 or 2018 to achieve Platinum status. He has performed at shows across Canada including Nashville North at the Calgary Stampede, the Big Valley Jamboree and Dauphin’s Countryfest to name a few.
